Pope Paul Mercy Home is a voluntary organization and our service to the public is purely for charity. This is one of the main centres for Mentally Retarded Children in Kerala. Children from other states are also given training. This centre was started on 01-05-1977 which was an ardent desire of late. Mar Joseph Kundukulam, the first Archbishop of Thrissur Catholic Archdiocese who is known as “FATHER OF THE POOR”

POPE PAUL MERCY HOME ,THRISSUR

Pope Paul Mercy Home is both a residential and a day care training school for the persons with intellectually disabled. It is situated at Peringandoor Village on the way to Shornur 12 Kms. Of north from Thrissur town and near to Thrissur Medical College, Kerala State. It was started in the year 1977 with an ardent desire of the first Archbishop of Thrissur Catholic Archdiocese Mar Joseph Kundukulam.Now, the Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath is the patron. Rev. Fr.Johnson Anthikat is the Director and Rev.Fr. Anish Chittilappilly is the Asst. Director. Pope Paul Mercy Home gives training & education for the mentally challenged childen (Santhivanam),Grown up Boys (Ashanilayam), Grown up Girls ( Ashavanam), a vocational training centre for mentallychallenged and over aged (Prathyasha Bhavan) and Early Intervention & Research Centre under one Umbrella. Around 20 types of vocational training units are functioning here. Recently, our new vocational training unit of “ BAKING” was inaugurated by Shri. Ramesh Chennithala, the opposition leader of Kerala Govt. It has also Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and Speech therapy units for the integral development of the special children.

STATE & NATIONAL AWARDS

In the year 1993 Pope Paul Mercy Home received the State Award for the best training centre for the welfare of the handicapped in Kerala. In the Year 1996, Pope Paul Mercy Home was selected as thebest training centre for the handicapped in India and awarded by Late. President of India Dr. Sankar Dayal Sharma. The ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi instituted this award. In the year 2001, National Award from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi for child welfare was obtained and awarded by Late. President of India Dr. K.R.Narayanan
